Episode 111 - Wild and Wacky Fun
Segment #4 - Newspaper Sculptures
Activity - Newspaper Sulptures
HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
- Pile of newspaper
- 1/2-inch dowel
- Masking tape
- Wire hanger or sturdy wire (optional)
- Poster paint and paintbrushes (optional)
LET'S GET STARTED:
- To make one building tube, unfold three full sheets of newspaper and stack on top of each other.
- Starting in one corner, place the dowel onto the top sheet of newspaper and begin to roll all three sheets up and over the dowel. Keep rolling all the way to the opposite corner. Place a piece of masking tape to hold the roll together.
- Slide dowel out and your building tube is complete.
- Repeat to make several tubes.
- To make a tube that bends and keeps its shape, insert an unfolded wire hanger or piece of wire into the tube. Bend back the ends of the wire.
- Use your imagination to build all sorts of things such as people, animals and buildings. For a geodesic dome, bend each tube into a triangle and then tape the triangles together. Leave tubes "natural" or decorate and paint your creations for storytelling and imaginative play.
