Episode 112 - Extended Families
Segment #2 - Artist in You
Activity - Kids Art Caryall Tote
LET'S GET STARTED:
To insure that artwork arrives home from school in good condition, help your child make this nifty waterproof carryall, just for their masterpieces.
Wash and remove the labels from two 2-liter plastic soda bottles. Leave lids screwed on at both ends. Cut off the base of each bottle with scissors. Trim any rough edges. On one bottle cut a 2- inch slit. Ease the open end of the bottle with the slit into the open end of the other bottle so that the two bottles fit snuggly together to form a torpedo like shaped container for loosely rolled up artwork. Tie one end of a colorful shoelace or cording around the neck of one bottle, then tie the opposite end around the other bottle to make a strap. Place over your child’s shoulder adjust to fit your child comfortably. Knot to keep the ends intact. Decorate the carryall with stickers, if you wish.
Parenting tip: Encourage kids to start bringing home their artwork earlier in the year next year. Empty gift-wrap, paper towel or mailing tubes are also good totes. Use them for sending art to grandparents or label each tube with your child’s name, year and grade for art you store. OTHER ACTIVITIES FROM THIS EPISODE:
