Episode 126 - Time Out for Time
Segment #4 - Octopus Hot Dogs and Spider Rolls
Activity - Spider Rolls

HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  • Prepared dinner-roll dough (available in the frozen-food section of your grocery store)
  • 1 egg, beaten with 1 tablespoon of water
  • Poppy seeds

LET'S GET STARTED:

  1. Each spider requires two rolls. Thaw the number of dinner rolls you plan to bake. Slice 1/3 off of one dinner roll and form a ball. Form a second ball with the remaining 2/3. Set side.
  2. Slice the second dinner roll into 4 equal parts. Roll each part into a 5-inch long snake. To form spider legs, place two of the "snakes," one inside the other, in a U- shape on a cookie sheet coated with nonstick cooking spray. With the remaining two snakes, form another U going in the opposite direction, joining them together at the curve. For a head and body, place the 2 balls next to each other on top of the curve.
  3. Let rise 15 minutes.
  4. Brush egg mixture on top of the spider. Sprinkle with poppy seeds.
  5. Bake in a 350-degree oven for 20 minutes.
  6. To serve, squeeze mustard onto a plate in a spider web design. Place warm roll on top. Or, try these spiders for breakfast on a web made from squeezed jam!
