HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
- Two liter plastic soda bottle with lid
- Scissors
- Clean small pebbles for drainage
- Charcoal which prevents odor (available at garden stores)
- Potting soil
- Small plants for terrariums such as miniature ferns
- Craft items to decorate your bottle like stickers, paint, glue, foam sheets
LET'S GET STARTED:
- Clean bottle, remove label and allow to dry.
- Set bottle on its side and cut out a 2-inch-by-6-inch rectangle lengthwise where the label was removed. The opening will be at the top of the terrarium.
- Glue a wooden bead to the outside of the cutout for a handle. Decorate bottle.
- Pour a 1/2-inch layer of small pebbles into the bottle.
- Next, pour a 1/2-inch layer of charcoal.
- Last, top off with at least 1-inch of potting soil.
- Plant small, nonpoisonous indoor plants in the soil.
- Water sparingly right after planting. A mister works well.
- Decorate your bottle with paints or foam sheet designs.
- Insert bead cutout in the opening of your mini ecosystem to retain moisture.
