Episode 104 - Healthy Family Living
Segment #1 - Physically Fit
Activity - Homemade Kickball Croquet game In croquet, the ball passes through wickets. For this kickball variation, allow enough space for your kickball to pass through the wickets like an archway.
In a typical croquet game, you need 9 wickets. 2 wickets are lined up on each end of the course (to total 4) and 5 wickets are set up in the middle (arranged like the 5 dots on dice). You will also need 2 stakes - one at each end of the course.
HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
- Large styrofoam packaging pieces from electronic products or household appliances
- Heavy duty wire or wire clothes hanger cut into pieces
- Paint, paintbrush
- Toothpicks
- Dull knife
- 2 wooden sticks or dowels approximately 12-inches tall for the stakes
LET'S GET STARTED:
- Look at your foam pieces and see what the shape looks like such as a house, a TV, or the mouth of a wild animal. Use a dull knife to cut away and shape the foam pieces.
- To attach pieces such as a chimney onto the roof of a house shape, use toothpicks for connectors.
- On the backside of your wicket, attach some foam pieces to the base for extra support to keep your wicket from tipping over.
- Paint and decorate.
- Insert a 8-inch piece of sturdy wire into the bottom of each wicket post, leaving several inches exposed. Push this exposed wire into the ground.
- Set up your 9 wickets. Move your kickball from one end of the course to the other by kicking your kickball through each wicket.
Variations: Sticks & Fabric Wickets: Set 2 sticks about 12" apart. Glue fabric strips horizontally between the sticks, leaving clearance for your ball underneath. Poke sticks into the ground.
Stakes: use 2 sticks approximately 12" tall.
