  Episode 106 - Making a Garden
Segment #4 - Decorating the Garden
Activity - Stepping Stones

HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  • Stepping stones (available at building and garden stores)
  • Newspaper
  • Nontoxic waterproof acrylic paints

LET'S GET STARTED:

At your local garden center look for inexpensive pre-made plain, concrete garden stepping stones. Those with a smooth surface work best for this project. When you get home, wash the stepping stones and let dry.   Set on sheets of newspaper and paint designs on the top side.   Try acrylic paints in squeeze bottles.

Here are some simple design ideas:

  • Paint letters for a "WELCOME" message for the entrance of your yard.
  • Paint pictures of herbs, flowers and trees.
  • Create a mosaic look.   Cut a new kitchen sponge into several 1-inch square pieces.   Dip squares in different colored paints and stamp on the stepping stone to create a picture or design.   Keep it simple.   A house, sailboat or sun with rays are good choices for beginners.
  • Dip hands in paint palms-down and make handprints to mark your growing family.
